Practices
Oakland Avenue Urban Farm is a project of North End Christian Development Corporation (NECCDC), a 501(C) 3 non-profit organization founded in 2000 with the mission of cultivating access to healthy foods, sustainable communities, and active cultural environments in Detroit’s North End neighborhood. For the past decade, against a backdrop of extreme social and economic need, Oakland Avenue Urban Farm has established a reputation as a stabilizing anchor. Growing healthy food, providing mentorship and educational programs, supporting gathering and outdoor art spaces, and generating jobs, the farm helps create a safety net where virtually no other is available in our target community. Currently funded primarily through grants and donations, Oakland Avenue Urban Farm looks to achieve financial self-sufficiency while increasing access to healthy foods and jobs for hard to hire individuals by taking our market online.
